What I learned from the 'Power-to-Molecules' workshop held at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) We delved into various aspects of Power-to-Molecules technologies, including CO2 capture, hydrogen generation from electrolyzers, types of e-fuels and chemicals, and also learned about current challenges of technology integration. The breakout sessions provided an excellent platform for discussing these topics in-depth, with participants actively sharing their thoughts and ideas. One of the key takeaways for me was gaining a deeper understanding of existing technologies, their significance in the energy landscape, and the hurdles they face in terms of scalability and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, learning about the current market trends and future investment opportunities in this field was eye-opening and has broadened my perspective on the potential impact of Power-to-Molecules technologies on our journey towards a sustainable future. I am grateful to Prof. Roland Dittmeyer for providing me with the opportunity to be a part of the workshop and am eager to apply what I've learned to contribute to the advancement of Power-to-Molecules technologies. #PowerToMolecules #Sustainability #carbonneutrality

Yesterday, Minister Todd Smith, the IESO's CEO Lesley Gallinger, Kinectrics’ Sean Donnelly, P.Eng., Bruce Power’s Alvin Jilei Zhang, MBA, CFA, FRM and others visited Enbridge in Markham to celebrate the companies selected to execute a subset of hydrogen technology projects to support its integration into Ontario’s electricity system. Kinectrics and its project partners, FuelCell Energy & Bruce Power, are thrilled to be one of the few teams selected to receive funding from the IESO’s Hydrogen Innovation Fund to perform a hydrogen feasibility study. This funding will enable us to help demonstrate the value of hydrogen as an integral part of the electrical grid, and will identify key environmental, safety, regulatory and operational considerations for its deployment. Happy to announce the release of our latest paper in the ISOPE conference, which I was happy to lead and present in Ottawa last month: "Compilation of Development Metrics Applicable to Wave Energy Converters (WECs): Current Status and Proposed Next Steps". The compilation summarized in this paper and its discussion aim to provide a practical reference source concerning metrics for WEC development, which is currently unavailable in the published literature in terms of broadness and condensed presentation. It includes multiple formulations from the wave energy sector and other relatable industries (e.g. wind energy) that are typically diluted among specialist literature, standards, guidelines and recommendations, scientific papers, and project reports. The paper is concluded with a reflection of any salient gaps that are not addressed by current metrics, in a context of accelerating the development of WEC technologies. Seminar Series: London | Session 6: Supporting renewable roll-out through ESS “As the ancillary service market becomes increasingly saturated in mature markets, BESS systems are moving towards longer durations to participate in energy arbitrage and markets.” To conclude the day's series of discussions, we delved into the realms of battery technology advancements. The panel, guest hosted by Policy Manager Ilka von Dalwigk of EIT InnoEnergy, showcased experts Iola Hughes, Research Manager at Rho Motion, Teddy Szemberg O'Connor from Rimac Technology, and Michael Kilcoyne, representing Fluence as the Senior Growth Associate for the UK and Ireland. Key points from their discussion included: - Current and future trends in BESS demand and technologies, regional analysis of project pipelines and durations, BESS chemistry projections, and exploring the diversity of national markets affecting deployment rates. - A BESS system manufacturer’s approach to in-house integration, maximising system operability and overall project revenues. - The future needs of the energy transition, the potential new services BESS can provide, and exploring opportunities for BESS in new markets. EPRI helps the power industry move forward through collaboration and research that identifies the latest innovations and best practices—and much of that work is being done at EPRI’s advanced laboratories. EPRI’s three state-of-the-art laboratories assist energy companies in a way that few places can. In my new article, I write about the impressive work being done at our labs and give just a few examples of the many incredible achievements that have resulted from our work. For instance, EPRI recently tested whether advanced conductors known as high temperature, low sag (HTLS) could offer the same high performance over an extended period of time with higher mechanical loads. In our advanced conductor testing facility, EPRI researchers were able to simulate 40 years of aging in just 18 months to show their durability and long-lasting performance. As a result, energy companies could confidently invest in the new technology. Read the full article to learn more:
